Ever since the beginning of time, ambitious people of the world have attributed some “indescribable” secret to the success of those people with wealth. These people have spent, and will continue to spend, millions of dollars to cultivate these “secrets” within themselves.

Particularly since the early seventies, there has been a growing demand by the public to attend classes, workshops, and self-improvement seminars that will enable them to align their thinking as well as their actions, with those of people who have already achieve success.

The popularity of such best-selling how-to manuals as, ‘Winning Is Believing’, ‘Think And Grow Rich’, ‘How to Develop A Winning Personality’, ‘Overcoming Shyness’, ‘Imagineering’, ‘New Life Options’, ‘Winning By Negotiation’, ‘Successful Visual-Verbal Communications’, ‘Conversationally Speaking’ and countless others lends reinforcement to the to the “need” for self-improvement seminars.

You can promote and stage these seminars either as a generalist or as a specialist in a specific area of expertise -and attain wealth for yourself almost beyond your current imagination! The market potential has only barely been scratched, affording a real ground-floor opportunity for those with the gumption to take action.

Dale Carnegie – the author of the book, ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’ – was certainly one of the first, if not “the first” self-improvement seminar marketer/teacher. Back in the Great Depression of the thirties, he recognized this need in people to improve themselves – he worked out a deal with the local management of his home town YMCA – got the word around that he was holding classes on self-improvement – and the rest is one of the truly classic unemployed-to-multi-million-dollar success stories of our time.

A self-improvement seminar is conducted much the same as a Toastmaster’s Club meeting… It can be held just about anywhere, from the informal atmosphere of someone’s living room to the formalities of the ‘Hilton Convention Center’.

Basically, a self-improvement seminar is a gathering of people where one or more speakers talk on a specific subject. More often than not, only a certain aspect of self-improvement, such as ‘How to Develop a Positive Mental Attitude’ – is the thrust of the seminar. In other words, the more successful seminars deal with “specialized areas” of self-improvement.

These speakers usually wind up their talks with audience involvement question and answer sessions. Most of them “wind down” with the speaker circulating through the audience, plus lots of opportunity for the purchase of self-help books and tapes by the people wanting on-going motivation and reinforcement relative to what they’ve just heard. Always – sometimes even as the featured subject of the seminar – there’s a great deal of motivation projected during these meetings. At the bottom line, motivation is more the purpose of these seminars than the attendees learning something they don’t already know. The favourite words of most seminar speakers are usually, “It’s the difference between having a dream and taking action – a matter of saying I can, believing it, and then doing it – because you can!”

Many a times people feel the need to change to a better self, but mostly, they have no idea about the area of their life that needs the change and what all they need to improve. This makes constant self realization important as it will constantly reflect person’s life to himself. These days people are so involved in their job and family that they completely forget about themselves and fail to realize their own sufferings and eventually fall apart. Remember, there should be constant improvement in one’s life and not vice versa.

To know and find out which area of your life needs improvement, you can pin down and consider what is taking most of your time. Is it your job, your home or your friends? If it’s your job for example, what is the problem that is causing you to go through difficulty? You may also think that you have tremendous amount of work all the time and that is tiring and pressurizing you.

Doing such an analysis in itself indicates that you are actually on the right path. At least you have figured out an area of your life that is demanding positive change. It is certain that you may gain control over it as soon as you make up your mind to challenge it. You can even consider rescheduling your routine to manage time well.

The process of self realization must include such regular self-analysis. This is more so because you are constantly exposed and are vulnerable to all that you focus your attention upon. You may be hurt already to find where your time is being spent maximum. However, now to bring about that change, you will have to first start by altering your belief systems and maybe few behavior-patterns as well.

In addition, you can even consider some other areas of your life that you are not happy about and would want to change. You must ask yourself few questions like: What is making you unhappy? What is burdening your life with unhappiness? What should be done to reverse this? Most of the time and more often the key to improvement is only a matter of giving some time to self and examine our day to day life carefully.
Similarly, only knowing what to improve is not enough, you must have strong belief and dedication to improve yourself no matter what. This definitely will not be easy. For example, you may have to become strict with your self at work and finish your work on time and meet deadlines.

Earlier you may be handling your work as a whole in general and maintaining one single deadline for the whole project, but now you can consider dividing your work into sub categories and set deadlines for each subcategory. You can also strive to stick to these deadlines religiously. This way, you may not waste time and procrastinate in the end. You must know how much time you have and manage it accordingly and effectively. Adaptation to the new changed behavior will not be easy initially but will help you in the long run.

Bringing about improvement in any area of your life is not an overnight job but is a slow process that is possible only if you make up your mind to do so. You may have people who encourage you to do so, but remember, it’s you who has to do everything to bring about the change to better your life. You have to believe in yourself and your aim constantly and not give up easily. Always keep in mind that self-improvement is a big favor that you are doing to yourself and don’t let it fail easily.
